HUSBAND SHOT WHILE WORKING FOR NGO
I doubt if you will print my story because it doesn`t have a very happy ending. My husband was employed with an NGO in Africa. He was shot and very nearly died when robbers broke into our home. He is now seriously disabled. The story was covered in theUganda monitor Nov 11 1997 titled "Briton shot robbed". There are some things that I have a hard time reconciling in my mind. One is the fact that the general manager in country had armed security at hishome while subordinates did not. The homes were in the same geographic location. The general manager had a cellphone and line that allowed for out going calls my husband did not have either of these .It took the NGO approximately seven weeks to call my husband after he was stable enough to return to the US. Finally although the company had workman`s compensation the carrier went bankrupt this month. N Casey

YOUTH PASTOR TELLS ABOUT MISSIONS TRIPS
Soar Youth Pomona, USA. I have been with Soar Youth for many years. We are the youth ministry at Life Center, Pomona, CA. (For more info on Soar Youth, check our web site at SOARYOUTH.COM). It would be impossible to pick one story. Last year we took a missions team to Carrizo, AZ where young people held children's crusades and refurbished a church on the Carrizo Apache reservation. In one week the team put on new siding and painted it, laid new floors, carpeting and put on a new roof. During the children's crusades and the Sunday service we saw 10 people receive Christ as their Savior. This is out of a villiage of 31 families. I have seen many of our students graduate from high school and go on to various universities on athletic scholorships. These are kids growing up in gang infested, drug infested neighborhoods. One of my favorite success stories are a couple of young men who come from a horrible home life. They accepted Christ as small children through the urban ministry I ran at the time. Instead of following in their parent's footsteps of alcoholism and welfare, they hold responsible jobs and both plan on entering the military after graduation. Young men God rescued from the gutter who are today productive members making a difference. That's what we do at Soar Youth. We take kids and impact them with the love of Jesus. I've seen our kids go on to become missionaries, athletes, businessmen, teachers, military personnel, you name it. These teens regularly use their time and talents to make a positive impact on others. Some of our teens have been used of God to bring his message of hope to young men in a local youth work camp through the medium of drama and human vidoes. Some use their abilities in our graphics and silk screen department, producing T-shirts, desiging and maintaining our web page. Some work with video editing software. In a world where teens are looked down on and not expected to acheive much, it is my great pleasure to work with a group of young people who are making a positive impact on their community and schools.
